People in Your Community…Knowledge at Your Doorstep

Welcome! The Nicholas County Extension program is informal education designed to “help people help themselves” in acquiring knowledge and improving their quality of life. Our office is often the place called when homeowners, farmers, or families have questions or problems, and are looking for trustworthy answers.

WV state and Nicholas County map The Cooperative Extension Service also provides programs in the areas of 4-H and Youth, Agriculture, Family Nutrition, Family and Consumer Sciences, Natural Resources, Community Resources and Economic Development. To meet and support the needs of local people and communities, county faculty and staff involve local residents in developing and leading specific programs and activities including workshops, meetings, exhibits and fairs, newsletters, telephone calls, letters and individual consultations.

Part of the National Cooperative Extension System

All universities engage in research and teaching, but the nation’s more than 100 land-grant colleges and universities including WVU, have another critical mission: Extension. Extension means reaching out, and along with teaching and research land-grant institutions extend their resources, solving public needs with college or university resources through local programs. With more than 3,000 county offices in the USA, the National Cooperative Extension System is the local front door for many citizens to their state land-grant institutions.
